Dr. Netsanet Desalegn Heramo is an Assistant Professor of Tropical and Infectious Diseases and Head of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Public Health at Jigjiga University, Ethiopia. She holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Jigjiga University and an MSc in Tropical and Infectious Diseases from Addis Ababa University. Her academic and research experience spans tropical and infectious diseases, zoonoses, neglected tropical diseases, epidemiology, medical and veterinary entomology, antimicrobial resistance, and One Health.

Dr. Heramo has conducted research on tropical and infectious diseases, zoonotic diseases, and antimicrobial resistance, including investigations of antimicrobial use, resistance patterns, and stewardship in human and veterinary health systems. Her research experience combines field- based investigation, laboratory methods, epidemiological analysis, and molecular approaches to understand disease transmission and inform effective prevention and control strategies. She is committed to multidisciplinary One Health research, teaching, mentoring, and capacity building, with the goal of strengthening disease surveillance and contributing to evidence-based prevention and control of infectious, zoonotic, antimicrobial-resistant, and vector-borne diseases in Ethiopia.
