Elifaged Hailemeskel Beshah

Postdoctoral Trainee

Dr Elifaged Hailemeskel Beshah graduated with a PhD in Medical Sciences from Radboud University Medical Center, the Netherlands, in 2024. His PhD research was focused on the transmission dynamics of asymptomatic malaria infections (Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax) in Ethiopia. He is currently a researcher at Armauer Hansen Research Institute where his research focuses on transmission dynamics of vector-borne diseases particularly malaria and leishmaniasis. 

Between 2023 and 2026, he led a case-control study under the CEASE project investigating the association between household exposure to invasive An. stephensi and malaria risk in an urban setting of Metehara in Ethiopia with a team at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. He has supervised an MSc student on the vector competence of the invasive An. stephensi for Ethiopian P. falciparum parasites. Dr Beshah has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles and has received trainings in pathogen genomics and bioinformatics through ITM, the University of Antwerp and AHRI, and Anopheles genomic data analysis through the PAMCA-MalariaGEN training program. 

He is a postdoctoral trainee at the URBAN-VECTOR training program. His research integrates population genomics, evolutionary genetics, and vector-parasite interactions to strengthen surveillance and support the control of vector-borne diseases and invasive disease vectors.
