Rajendra Baharia
NIMR-Nadiad

Dr. Rajendara Baharia is a Research Scientist at the ICMR-National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR) in New Delhi and serves as the Officer-in-Charge of NIMR's Field Unit in Nadiad. He is also an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) Unit. He is currently working as Principal investigator in various National and International research projects related to Malaria epidemiology and Malaria entomology. He has recently completed the ICMR Task force project on vector Biology (IRiS ID 2017: e76950) and vector behaviors in Gujarat, India. He has completed as a site investigator in a project on monitoring the efficacy of ACT for the treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in India (TES 2020- WHO Funded). Continuous monitoring of their efficacy is needed to inform treatment policies in malaria endemic countries, and to ensure early detection of, and response to, drug resistance. He has completed as the Principal Investigator of ICMR PROJECTS: 1. Asymptomatic malaria (IRIS ID 2020-6039N) especially due to low density infection and antimalarial drugs 2. Vector Bionomics studies (IRIS ID 2020- 6028N) in Tribal Area. Presently, he is the Site investigator in Primaquine High dose, short course clinical trial which is funded by Oxford. He is also the sub-recipient India PI in PD Murdock’s project on understanding environmental drivers of urban malaria transmission by An. stephensi in India (NIAID R01AI153444). Dr. Baharia has trained 4 post-graduate students, 4 M.S. students, and 3 PhD students. Finally, Dr. Baharia has been involved in organizing several training events, including “Training in Malaria Microscopy” for 450 laboratory technicians and a basic malaria entomology training for 400 district health supervisors from across 35 districts of the government of Gujurat.
