Praveen Bharti

NIMR-Delhi

Vector biology, insecticide resistance, malaria epidemiology

Dr. Praveen Bharti is a senior scientist level F at the Department of Molecular Epidemiology, ICMR-NIMR New Delhi, India. His scientific research focuses on molecular epidemiology of malaria and other infectious diseases since 2004 and has played a critical role in understanding and responding to the antimalarial drug resistance in Central India. In addition, he is involved in several research projects including evolution of various monovalent and bivalent rapid diagnostic test kits for malaria, translational research in malaria in central India and preparation of field site for malaria vaccine trials. Dr. Bharti heads the Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) Product Evaluation program that is a joint activity between the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), and Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) under Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Based on Dr. Bharti’s personal experience with malaria molecular epidemiology, molecular studies on population genetics, monitoring of insecticide resistance status and their mechanism he has the skills needed to participate in the proposed training program in collaboration with Dr. Murdock. The current application is a logical next step for expanding existing research and capacity strengthening at ICMR to complement long standing interest on urban malaria control and elimination.
