Medical entomology, vector biology

Dr. Laura Harrington of Cornell University is a professor in the Department of Entomology. Her research program comprises the biology, ecology, behavior, and control of mosquitoes and ticks that transmit human pathogens. Her research emphasizes mosquito physiology, behavior, and fitness; mosquito-pathogen interactions; and insecticide resistance monitoring and molecular mechanisms of resistance. Her current research on identifying reproductive targets and mosquito age-grading are supported by NIAID funding (2R01AI095491 and R01AI180243-01), and she currently is the program director of the Training and Evaluation Center for the Prevention and Control of Vector-borne Diseases that focuses on addressing pressing questions in vector biology, providing training to regional public health professionals, and building integrated surveillance and control programs in the Northeast U.S. (CDC NU50CK000633). Dr. Harrington has expertise in mentoring international students (n=8), and is mentor in the T32 postdoctoral training program affiliated with the Cornell Institute of Host-Microbe Interactions and Disease (AI145821).
